Building What? Knocking Down What? When?

Friday, 4 February 2005

Over the past few days, Ajarn Ong-Ard and Ajarn Kansinee have showed us various rooms in our 4 - story building that will be used for living spaces, classrooms, and now a lunchroom. Today they asked my advice of how the students should walk to the lunchroom. If they walk in front, where the lawn is, it will be unsafe because of the pool. Yes, there will be a pool where our lawn is out front....the only piece of grass the students have to play on right outside. Personally, I think a big toy would be a better investment of money, especially since we don't have one on our campus, and currently we have to take our kids to the other campus three blocks away to play with kids their age, on playground equipment. Some parents aren't so pleased with the new "expensive" pool project, but they better speak up now. Plans are set to start building in April. With May, the new school year around the corner, I wonder, "How long (and how noisy) will this project be?" Oh, about five months I am told, but not to worry, because our classrooms have air-condition in them. Yeah, I'm sure air-condition will block out jack-hammering through the ground while teachers are trying to teach students, only twenty feet away, who speak little or no English.

They are going to open up a shop too, right outside the classroom door, to sell swimsuits and snacks and such to raise money to help pay for this pool. They will open up the pool to the public on the weekends and holidays. Sounds great to have a pool, but why? And, what about something for the kids to play on? And when? To start in a couple months.....Oh my! These adminstrators have all these plans in their head, but I'm not sure they always come up with them in the right order. We'll see what happens.....
