It's A Slow Process All Around

Thursday, 2 June 2005

As you may have noticed, I have started to post my pictures from my travels around Chiang Mai (northern Thailand), Myanmar, and Laos. Well, I haven't quite gotten to Myanmar and Laos yet, but they're coming. Some pictures you have to click on April to look at them, and others, I have yet to put them correctly in chronological order. It's a time consuming process, and unfortunately, my brother doesn't always appreciate that I'm hanging out in his room on his computer all the time.

Also a slow process is "getting into my routine" (as my dad would put it), as I never really had one here in Hawai'i since I was in high school, and being currently unemployed and still trying to figure out a schedule with caring for my dad, I'm still trying to figure out, just what that routine might be. But, after recent conversations with friends about getting back into my yoga routine (Thanks Teresa and Steph!), I finally went this morning to the Bikram yoga studio just down the hill from where I live (literally a 5 minute drive). I got the $20 unlimited for a week introductory package, even though at first the instructor wasn't going to give it to me after I mentioned that I've done Bikram for two years in Seattle, but then she ended up giving it to me anyway. It was good to start again, even though I died in the first half (I know it's from not being fully hydrated before class) and had to lie down a lot because I was having dizzy spells. Although I did a little yoga on my own in the natural humidity and heat of my room in Thailand, I need a teacher and a class to get me fully motivated and keep me disciplined. It will probably take me a good month or so to get back to my yoga routine and re-tone my muscles after nearly a year hiatus.

I went to Dad's house tonight and joined him and Bernice who were walking through Palolo Valley. It'll be a slow process for me building muscles, just by pushing him around all the non-ADA compliant sidewalks, uneven curbs, steep hills, and bumps in the road. He was feeling stronger today, and tried to walk a few steps from his chair to his walker (even though it scared us, because if he falls, he could really injure himself). His strength changes from day to day. His Friday fishing day is on with the guys tomorrow, so Uncle Ralf will pick him up to take him on the boat. Hopefully he'll catch mahimahi or something!
