ALS Support Group Christmas Party

Tuesday, 9 December 2008

Though we didn't get to go to the North Pole, there was great food (and desserts), a one-man band, Christmas carolers who practiced on us (and are going to go caroling for patients who are bedridden at home this Thursday), and catching up with old friends and new ones. We did Christmas crafts, a little light bulb angel ornament, as well as Christmas card gift bags. And, of course, we came dressed in our Christmas hats. Chase had his Santa hat with his Grinch shirt and Elmo tool belt (the tool belt was merely for entertainment for the kid). I had my funky spiral hat, which I got lots of favorable comments on. Chris wore his black Scrooge hat of course.

My brother Jay came and got to meet some of the new clients with ALS. There are a few new families with diagnosed loved ones. It's always nice to meet them and talk to them about their symptoms, their outlook on life, and living with ALS. It was nice to meet Chester, who is spending his time with his family, traveling the world to many exotic locations, while he is still mobile. And, Paul, who is still driving (until he crashes his car, he says). It's nice to see people still maintain their sense of humor with this dreadful disease.

Chase loved running around the place, making a mess during dinner time (you can always tell where a toddler sits), and dancing during the caroling with maracas and bells in hand.
