As we watch the news everyday, Christy and I both talk about how we want to go down to Phuket to help. But, we can't physically be down there right now with our teaching jobs here in Nakhon Pathom, and once things get more organized down there, perhaps we can look into how our help can be used. The Church of Christ in Thailand, the organization our school is a part of, is collecting donations from students and their families this week, to bring down to the Phuket area this weekend. Christy's organization, MUP, has people already working down there, but here is more information from an email she recently sent to family and friends interested in helping:
"Many of you have asked me how you can help in the relief efforts here in SE Asia. The organization I am connected with, MUP, has relief work going on in Phuket, Thailand and Indonesia.
If you are interested in sending funds towards these projects, visit the website at http://www.mup.org/OnlineGivingMain.htm and chose projects. Then scroll down and choose one of the projects beginning with Tsunami. You can do it directly online or you can send donations to:
MUP
P.O. Box 30947
Seattle, WA 98113-0947
Please attach a note indicating funds are for Tsunami projects either Phuket or Indonesia. However, do not write this on the check itself.
The MUP workers in Phuket are using their vehicles to transport food, water and supplies to devastated villages. They are also working as translators trying to help foreigners search for missing family and friends.
In Indonesia, they are doing much the same and trying to find ways to get to the villages that so far haven’t been able to receive aid.
If you are interested in going as part of a team to help, Kathy Cranston at MUP is working to coordinate efforts with other agencies to see what is needed and what can be arranged with those available to go. You can email her at: kathyc@gatiwa.com
I just wanted to give everyone the opportunity to do something! It’s so hard to watch the news all day everyday seeing the destruction and despair and not want to do something. I wish I could get up and go help in the relief efforts myself….but I have a job to do here in NP and can’t just get up and leave. So, I am doing my best by spreading the word.
Thank you for your support!"
Love,
Christy

Tanya and Christy,
Thank you for giving us a reccommendation for giving to the relief efforts. We can't send much, but whatever we give, we want to be sure it is spent on the families and communities that need it most.
On a lighter note; snow is forecast for Thurs. - Sat. in Seattle, so you know that the kids are very excited and acting like little meteorologists as they emphatically inform us "It is going to snow on Friday!"
Thanks for your generosity and willingness to help. Hope you get a snow day! (= Although we won't ever get snow here, I actually had to layer my clothing for the first time! And, I've been using a jacket at night!
