Dad Wants To Set Me Up

Wednesday, 8 June 2005

After a good Bikram yoga workout this morning, Dad calls my cell phone, and this is how the conversation goes...

Dad: "Hey remember that thing on Oprah we were watching the other day (Oprah has become part of our daily routine.), called "It's Just Lunch"? Well, if you go online and sign up, I'll pay for the registration fees."
Me: "What?! What are you talking about? That dating thing??"
Dad: "Yeah, you know, I figured you have a lot of time on your hands now, and maybe you want to get back into the social scene. So if you go online and sign up, I'll pay for it."
Me: "You want me to do what?! (Me, still in disbelief.) Okay, thanks. I'll let you know."

I told my aunt and uncle and cousin (whose house I was at when my dad called) about the woman on the Oprah show who started a dating company where people meet over lunch for a less pressure blind date. We were all just laughing. My aunt said, "See, your dad has a lot of time to think."
I said, "Yeah, guess he thinks I can't find someone on my own, and he really wants me to get a boyfriend soon."
Hilarious is all I say. Thanks, Dad.
