Call it our own UW mini-reunion. We celebrated the day we met, 15 years ago, at the University of Washington's Freshman Orientation at the HUB, by going to dinner at Buca di Beppo. Sitting in the restaurant, you could have thought we were in Seattle by Lake Union. There were a few of us from Kamehameha and a few of them from Punahou. We were sitting one row away from each other in the auditorium. The people said to turn around and say hello to those around us. That's when we figured out (along with the local inflection) that there were other people from Hawai'i sitting right near us. We introduced ourselves, then realized we were actually in the same dorm as well. That was the beginning of our lifelong friendship.
Kai, Stacy, Melissa, and I enjoyed chatting about our friends, laughs, fights, men, dramas, roommates, and houses we shared (of course we didn't share our men) over the years while living the college life in the U-District. Most of us stayed in the Seattle area for years, and slowly, we're all returning back to Hawai'i to start our own little families. We did some window shopping afterwards, stopping at a maternity store and Nordstrom Rack. Our night ended when we realized we are all getting a bit too old to stay out past 9 pm on a Friday night. Geez...
(Though I took the opportunity to do some shopping at the Rack for the next hour. By the time I got home, I realized I hadn't seen Chase for about 15 hours today...ended up nursing him most of the night. I think he missed his mommy. I missed him too.)
