Not much exciting happened this weekend, so it's a pretty blah title. Friday night, we had an end of the year staff party thrown by the church. There was eating, singing of Thai hymns, a couple of games, and we walked away with pens advertising pharmaceutical drugs (A doctor associated with the church gets a lot of these things.) Saturday, watched DVDs and lazed around at home because it was just too darn hot outside to do anything else. That night, Tik, Aw, Oil (Aw's cousin), Christy, and I went to a park nearby to walk around. Although only Christy and I lasted. We walked twice around, while the other gals sat on a park bench for half an hour waiting for us. We reminisced about Greenlake, as this park is similar with a lake in the middle. It's nice to see so many families and children come out to exercise then dine on the lawn just next to the lake. There was a night market there that night, next to the big blow up slide, so after feasting on som tom, fish, sticky rice, and pork, we looked at jewelry and things, then headed home.
Tonight, we all went to a wedding reception for one of our kindergarten teachers. I've been to so many Thai weddings since I've been here, that there's not much to say about this one, given the fact I don't even know the teacher's name. A couple of our staff members emceed the thousand person event, which included the typical rotation of singers dressed in shiny, sequined, sexy outfits, bright neon lights, eating a seven course Chinese dinner amongst the variety of wild dogs eating the scraps people threw on the dirt around us, giving our envelopes of money and receiving our favors (which were the most unaesthetically pleasing things I've seen - they were seriously"ugly") of magnets of grains molded in orange ceramic baskets (Basically, I have a Thanksgiving looking ceramic little pouch with a spoonful of brown rice in it to decorate my refrigerator.). After the bride and groom took pictures with each table, I had never seen people leave a wedding so quick! I turned around, and suddenly the twenty tables behind me had vacant seats. Talk about eat, drink, and run! Even the boisterous table of men next to us, drank all their Master's Blend Seagram's whiskey bottles and were ready to hit the road...But, not too fast. Just as we were leaving, one of the fellows got up on stage to sing karaoke. That was our cue to call it a night.
