Constitution Day Holiday

Friday, 10 December 2004

Today is Constitution Day. Not really sure what is celebrated (Most locals seem to be shopping all day at Big C or Tesco Lotus), but it is a national holiday. So, that works for me. We only had a three day work week this week. I think all weeks should be three day work weeks. Although, the Thai teachers had to show up this morning for meetings all day. Unfortunately, Thai teachers don't always get holiday time.

Ajarn Linda and her daughter Tina took Christy and I to a nice outdoor restaurant on the water. Then, we went to Tesco Lotus, where I bought some Christmas decor to decorate our classroom. All of the classrooms at our school are having a contest to see who's classroom is the most beautifully decorated for Christmas. So far, the students have made red and green Christmas chains, snowflakes, wreaths, and we have lights up. Other classrooms have Christmas trees with ornaments, "Happy New Year" cut out of styrofoam, and other fancy decor. We didn't realize everyone goes all out for this. So, we've requested the students bring more paper and fake snow and streamers and such to decorate so we can win. Plus, we keep reminding the other teachers on our campus that we have first graders, and they all have 4th - 9th graders.

Tonight, I went with Jill, Tik, and Aw to get my hair done. A beauty shop was having a sale, so we each got our hair conditioned and dried. I got mine washed and conditioned with yogurt (which left it so nice and smooth) and then blown dry. It cost 60 baht, or $ 1.50. Everyone here loves to straighten their hair. The straighter the better.

After dinner, I got home and Christy was baking cookies and listening to Christmas music. Ah, the smells and sounds of Christmas!
