Today we did some Halloween art projects, as we realized late yesterday that part of the English curriculum is to expose the children to American culture and holidays. They had fun making pattern picture washes and spider hats.
After school, I had fun playing bocce ball with some teachers until the sun went down.
We watched "School of Rock" (Christy decided to buy the $3 DVD while we were picking up food for dinner.) and after dinner, I was in my room, when Christy knocks on my door and seems a bit perplexed and says, "You have to come downstairs and check this out." On the kitchen floor, there is this lump under our contact paper-like floor. She says she just stepped on something hard and it poked her foot. She thinks it's a large beetle (like ones she has seen before) but does not want to lift the floor up to check. You can noticeably see a large lump, about 4 inches wide protruding on the kitchen floor. We both begin poking at it and then call Tik to check it out. She comes and lifts up the "contact paper" which covers our entire kitchen floor (as Christy and I both edge farther away, not wanting to see what "else" might be under there) and sure enough, there was this large rhinocerous beetle, now crushed by Christy's foot under the floor. We both start freaking out in disgust, and Christy runs to get her camera as Tik laughs at the two farangs, telling us "animal not dangerous". She picks it up with her fingers and dangles it around as we take pictures to commemorate our find. Tik just laughs at us and asks "You no have in America?", and I say, definitely no, that's why were taking these pictures! Guess you never know what might be lurking under your kitchen floor. Trick or treat!
