Happy Halloween!

The weekend festivities in celebration of Halloween...

Friday: My brother Jay and I scrambled around last minute looking for costumes a couple of hours before we headed to the Art After Dark at the Honolulu Academy of Arts. I found a dress and necklace at the mall, bought a bag of plastic bones, and then we cut up a piece we found at Goodwill to create our costumes. It was a hit! As soon as we entered, people knew who we were. Danced with friends and people watched, taking pictures of other cool costumes. The night ended up with pupus and drinks at Ryan's with Linh and friends.

Saturday: Morning Bikram yoga, then headed to a baby shower for my good friend Miya (who could give birth to her first child...a boy...in pre-term labor any day now, as her doctor put her on bedrest) at Natsunoya's Tea House. Called Stacy in Seattle to wish her a happy birthday since I'm missing the big Halloween/Birthday party this year. Joel came over to look at my brakes on the truck, then I treated him to dinner. Afterwards, I picked Erica up, and after bowing out of going to a Shaggy concert, we ended up going to Ryan's (again!) for pupus and drinks instead.

Sunday: Lunch blind date with a construction engineer named Mitch at Gordon Biersch. (Let's just say it was a free lunch.) Visited Miya at home and got dinner for her and the guys. Watched part of a movie before calling it a night.

Monday: Happy Halloween! Dressed up in a "more appropriate" school dress for my Wilma costume. Of course, now that I'm almost 30, I've come to realize how these kids are too young to even know who The Flinstones are! Only two of my kids figured out who I was. With Nicole's (my teaching assistant) Doraemon costume and my funky wig, the kids were very excited. We made spider hats and learned a bit about spiders to celebrate.

Went to Thai class tonight, and started struggling in keeping up. The grammar is getting so difficult now, and we don't get enough time to practice speaking and using what we have learned. But, I picked up on the vocabulary here and there.

Even though I was kind of exhausted from the night before (not getting goodnight rests from our dog Kaliko who barks nonstop at about 4 in the morning most nights), I got a second wind and met Erica and friends at Row Bar and Oceans Nightclub. Again, it was fun to dress up and see all the outrageous costumes, from the several styles of Dorothy to the Fruit of the Loom grape girl, the Whoppee Cushion man, to the Hula girl lampshade to the x-rated porno man. Called it a night by midnight...after all, still gotta teach the kiddies in the morning (and I'm sure I'll be taking an afternoon nap).

Hope you all enjoyed a safe and fun Halloween!
